Craig Fortier, 2019

Assistant Professor in Social Development Studies at Renison University College, an affiliated college of the University of Waterloo.  

Craig holds a PhD in Sociology from York University and has participated in movements for migrant justice and in support of Indigenous sovereignty for over a decade in Toronto, Three Fires Confederacy, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat territories.

They are the author of Unsettling the Commons: Social Movement Within, Against and Beyond Settler Colonialism

Craig is the Co-Commissioner of the Field of Dreamers Cooperative Softball Association and has played short-stop and centre field among other positions for the Humber River Hustle, Rouge River Blush, and Credit River Care Bears.

Areas of Research: settler colonialism; social movements, popular culture, qualitative methods, abolitionist and decolonizing pedagogy; Indigenous & settler relationships, colonization/decolonization; Indigenous theory; migrant justice movements; nationalism and sovereignty; social work; and baseball.
